Meet Sounders Women at Sounders U23 Historic Event - Wednesday May 30

Tacoma, WA – For fans that were unable to get a ticket to the sold out Sounders FC Open Cup match on Wednesday night, there is still a Sounders event to enjoy. The Seattle Sounders FC U-23 and Sounders Women have partnered a historic soccer event on May 30 at Cheney Stadium. The Sounders Women, including U.S. National Team Star, Megan Rapinoe, will be at the men’s Sounders FC U-23 match to sign autographs and meet South Sound soccer fans.

The May 30 game pitting the Sounders U-23 against their Northwest rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps, will be the first soccer match played in the newly renovated Cheney Stadium. Fans will have a chance to be a part of the historic night for just $10. For fans looking to take advantage of the VIP Party Deck at Cheney Stadium, including a 90 minute buffet of different foods, drinks and a top view of the game, tickets are $20.

Fans are encouraged to come early to meet and greet Women of Seattle Soccer.  Sounders Women players will be at the stadium starting at 5:00pm until kickoff and some will stick around for the match. Sounders players, including U.S. National Team players; Megan Rapinoe, Stephanie Cox, and Keelin Winters will meet fans and sign autographs. Due to unforeseen sponsor obligations prior to the London Olympics, Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, and Sydney Leroux will not be in attendance. Fans can get autographs and photos before the Sounders FC U-23 kickoff at 6:00pm.

"What an incredible chance for our team to be a part of a historic event at Cheney Stadium as we support the Sounder U23s vs. one of their main rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps,” Sounders Women Head Coach, Michelle French said. “From our team’s perspective, we want to continue to actively reach out to all South Sound fans and what better to do that, than to watch the game we love together!"

Cheney Stadium is the home of the Tacoma Rainiers, PASL baseball organization. The Rainiers are happy to partner with the Sounders U-23 for this event.

“We’re very excited to host the Sounders U23 games at our park this year,” said team president Aaron Artman. “We built the stadium with not only baseball, but other sports, events and community gatherings in mind.  When the guys are on the road, we’re happy to see Cheney put to good use.  Hosting the soccer match will hopefully give folks who aren’t necessarily baseball fans, a reason to come check the place out.”

Tickets for the May 30 Celebration of Soccer at Cheney Stadium are on sale at SoundersU23.com.  Season Tickets are also available at SoundersU23.com. Packages including the two Cheney Stadium matches start at $80.
