Hope Solo - Alex Morgan & Sounders Women Join in on Historic Event at Cheney Stadium
Tacoma, WA. – The Seattle Sounders FC U-23 and Sounders Women have partnered for a soccer celebration on May 30 at Cheney Stadium. Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, and their Sounders Women teammates will be at the Sounders FC U-23 match to sign autographs and meet South Sound soccer fans.
The May 30 game pitting the Sounders U-23 against their Northwest rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps, will be the first soccer match played in the newly renovated Cheney Stadium. Fans will have a chance to be a part of the historic night for just $10. For fans looking to take advantage of the VIP Party Deck at Cheney Stadium, including a 90 minute buffet of different foods, drinks and a top view of the game, tickets are $20.
Fans are encouraged to come early to meet and greet the stars Women’s soccer. Sounders Women players will be at the stadium before kickoff and stick around until their halftime appearance on the field. Fans can get autographs and photos with their favorite players before the Sounders FC U-23 kickoff at 6:00pm.
"What an incredible chance for our team to be a part of a historic event at Cheney Stadium as we support the Sounder U23s vs. one of their main rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps,” Sounders Women Head Coach, Michelle French said. “From our team’s perspective, we want to continue to actively reach out to all South Sound fans and what better to do that than to watch the game we love together!"
Hope Solo, the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Women’s National Team is also well known for starring on the 13th season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
Alex Morgan is quickly becoming the world’s best goal-scorer. The 22 year old burst on to the international soccer scene with goals in the 2011 World Cup semi-finals and the champion ship game. She became the 1st American to score a goal and an assist in a World Cup Final.
Solo and Morgan will be joined by their Sounders Women teammates, which include other U.S. National Team members, Women’s Professional League standouts, and collegiate All-Americans.
Cheney Stadium is the home of the Tacoma Rainiers, PASL baseball organization. The Rainiers are happy to partner with the Sounders U-23 for this event.
“We’re very excited to host the Sounders U23 games at our park this year,” said team president Aaron Artman. “We built the stadium with not only baseball, but other sports, events and community gatherings in mind. When the guys are on the road, we’re happy to see Cheney put to good use. Hosting the soccer match will hopefully give folks who aren’t necessarily baseball fans, a reason to come check the place out.”
