Sounders U23 head into three game PDL weekend

The Sounders U23 team head into a 3-game weekend starting with a road trip to Victoria to the face the Victoria Highlanders on June 1st at Centennial Stadium at the University of Victoria.  At 1-0-2, the Sounders U23 will work to gain points on the road before facing the current division leaders, Calgary Foothills 3-0-1 at Sunset Stadium in Sumner on Sunday, June 3rd at 2pm.

The Victoria Highlanders 1-4-0 are under new management this year with Thomas Niendorf taking over and former General Manager, Mark Defrias putting together a new ownership team.  Led by Blair Sturrock, the team will look to get a home win today.

Calgary Foothills continues to be one of the top teams in the PDL Northwest Division and has built their 2018 roster to prepare for the new Canadian Premier League professional team, the Calgary Cavalry that will be led by Tommy Wheeldon.  Professional players have been signed this year in preparation for the campaign in 2019.  Marco Carducci, Moses Danto, and Nik Ledgerwood are the notable additions to the Foothills roster.

With a Tuesday tilt at the Portland Timbers U23 team 1-2-1, the roster depth will be tested and the Sounders U23 will have faced all teams in the Northwest Division of the PDL in the first two weeks of competition.  The Portland U23 team won the 2017 PDL NW Division and boasts many returners highlighted by Rey Ortiz, Geo Magana, and Benji Michel from the University of Portland.

“Our roster will be tested over this stretch but we look forward to the competition.  This division in the PDL hammers each other and it makes for a great player development arena for guys looking to get the next level,” said Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 Head Coach and General Manager.

The Sounders U23 return to Sunset Stadium in Sumner on Sunday June 3rd to face Calgary Foothills.  Tickets can we purchased at www.soundersu23.com or at the gate on game day.  Come check out the #RELOADED future professionals!
